Our Logo

The current logo of the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust was introduced in August 2007 and was designed by MDM Design.

It incorporates aspects of Helen Macpherson Smith’s signature - she often signed herself HMS - and at the same time it references the triangular shape of our previous logo, which in turn refers graphically to the shape of the state of Victoria to which Helen’s bequest applies.

Similarly, the whimsical interpretation of Helen’s signature in our new logo replicates the wavy border of Victoria, determined by the Murray River as it wends its way between New South Wales and Victoria.

Jane Sandilands, in her forthcoming biography of Helen says:

"Helen signed the postcards with the initials "H.M.S.", which were also engraved on her dressing table set of silver brushes and mirrors. Perhaps her liking for the use of her initials reflected a patriotism towards His Majesty's Service. There is no doubt she used them whenever possible. Today, Helen's preference is perpetuated by the name given to the custodian nominee company of the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust, HMS Nominees Limited."
