Update from the HMSTrust Laboratory team

Now that the Laboratory has been operational for almost a month, we thought it would be a good time to send an update to our current and future lab users on things that are happening around the lab.

The team is extremely busy getting all our systems up and running and our training processes in place. The booking system is now open and people are able to register with the HMSTrust lab and book instruments. The following instruments are currently available:
– Shimadzu 2010 single quadrupole LC-MS
– Shimadzu 8030 triple quadrapuole LC-MS
– 3 x Shimadzu Prominence HPLCs
– PerkinElmer DSC-8500 differential scanning calorimeter
– PerkinElmer EnSight plate reader
– Phenom Pro scanning electron microscope
– Metrohm Karl Fischer moisture titrator.

A core group of users is currently receiving training of the Shimadzu 7090 MALDI-TOF-TOF, which we then intend to open up to other users. The PerkinElmer Raman Micro 200, RamanFlex 400F Raman Spectrometer, Frontier FTIR Spectrometer and Spotlight 400 FTIR Microscope have all been installed and training will be conducted in the first week of June by a PerkinElmer representative. Our Shimadzu XRD has been shipped from Japan and the PerkinElmer AxION MS-MS for attachment to the Clarus GC is due to arrive at the end of May. We will provide further updates as these systems become available in the coming months.

It is great to see, after years of planning and all the hard work from so many contributors, our first cohort of experienced users in the lab and running their samples.

We thank everyone for their support as we continue to iron out any wrinkles and would welcome suggestions and feedback on ways to improve the lab user experience.

Our thanks also go to our partners the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust, the McCall MacBain Foundation, Shimadzu, PerkinElmer, Monash University, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science at Monash University, and our research colleagues in Drug Delivery, Disposition and Dynamics.

Anyone requiring training can register their interest by sending an email to pharm.hmstlab-contact@monash.edu specifying the instrument, when they will need to begin using the instrument, and any prior experience they may have.

Best wishes from

The HMSTrust Laboratory team
