This program is a whole of community development approach, designed to mitigate the effects of disadvantage and has a long-term goal to improve Benalla’s Year 12 completion rate to state average or better. Delivered across three sub-program areas – Early Years, Future Work and Collaboration, key features of the program include: supporting children across three learning environments – the family, the school and the community; a long-term approach with many complementary projects and activities from pre-birth to career; a child-by-child focus to change individuals’ educational attainment levels and a community-wide partnership approach to ensure a common focus on improving Benalla student outcomes.

The purpose of this funding is to enable First Step to undertake strategic steps to address some of the systematic barriers across the mental health sector for the purpose of benefiting people who use drugs and alcohol and people living with mental distress. First Step will expand their internal capacity by bringing on new roles to enhance their integrated care model and to implement strategic engagement work with government. First Step will also undertake an Impact Evaluation, which will provide vital information to influence government in an evidence-based service delivery model, responding to the recommendations outlined in the Royal Commission’s report on the Victorian Mental Health System.

The reimagined How-To Garden in Cranbourne will enable the delivery of practical, hands-on learning activities to a range of visitors, and will feature edible Australian plants, a new shelter for group-based learning activities, and improved interpretation for self-guided learning.

To consolidate and expand the Northern Centre for Excellence in School Engagement (NCESE) - an ambitious place based initiative established to respond to a local school crisis, including high levels of disengagement affecting increasingly younger students in network of schools.

To support the Western Port Learning Guarantee, a place based, locally led community initiative aimed at reducing low rates of educational attainment and corresponding unemployment and cycles of disadvantage.

To provide holistic support to young people to overcome barriers to education in Melbourne’s west.

This project is a three-year partnership with ACRE and the Wilderness Collective that will see the development of social enterprise capability in the Mallacoota community through entrepreneurial and social enterprise learning and development to individuals, schools, organisations and cross-sector leaders from government, business, community and education. Endorsed in the Mallacoota Community- Led Disaster Recovery Plan, the project is seen as an enabler for several bushfire recovery initiatives under two broad themes: Entrepreneurship and Lifelong Learning/ Local Employment.

Support for nurses and front-line workers to delivery holistic health care to vulnerable Victorians
