McKinnon Education Program in Victoria

Strengthening the evidence, policy and reform agenda for improving educational outcomes in Victoria

The McKinnon Education Program examines the systems, structures and policies that shape educational outcomes. With many students not meeting expected literacy and numeracy benchmarks, it explores how governance, professional learning and accountability can better support schools.

Led by Dr Jordana Hunter, the program brings together research, policy development and engagement with education leaders and decision-makers. Key areas of work include the development of multi-school organisations, teacher professional development and school accountability. The program aims to translate research and international experience into practical approaches that are relevant to the Victorian education context.

This work advances Helen Macpherson Smith Trust’s focus on system-level improvement in education. By examining the conditions that support effective teaching, leadership and school improvement, the program can inform decisions that affect learning outcomes across Victoria.

By connecting research with policymakers and education leaders, the program can help turn evidence into practical reforms suited to Victorian schools.

“

McKinnon is working with Victorian system leaders and principals to embed evidence-based approaches to school improvement, drawing on lessons from England from high performing Multi-Academy Trusts, effective professional development and approaches to student behaviour.
