18 June 2026

Helen Macpherson Smith Trust marked a significant milestone on Tuesday 9 June 2026, celebrating 75 years of philanthropic impact with a reception at Government House, Melbourne.

Trustees past and present with the CEO and Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC at Government House.

Hosted by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, the evening brought together Trustees past and present, grantee partners, sector colleagues and long-standing friends, celebrating Helen Macpherson Smith’s enduring legacy, and the role philanthropy continues to play in strengthening Victorian communities.

In welcoming guests, the Governor acknowledged the profound contribution of Helen Macpherson Smith and the lasting impact of the Trust’s work. Her remarks set the tone for an evening that was both reflective of past achievements and forward-looking, celebrating a legacy built over decades, sustained through careful stewardship and strong partnerships.

The milestone honours the vision of Helen Macpherson Smith, whose 1951 bequest established the Trust with an enduring commitment to community wellbeing and opportunity across Victoria. Over 75 years, that founding gift has grown into a substantial corpus, enabling the distribution of significant funding to Victorian charities and community initiatives.

Chair Bruce Parncutt AO paid tribute to the Trustees, staff and grantee organisations who have collectively stewarded Helen’s vision, and emphasised the importance of the continued responsibility to respond to the changing needs of the community.

Acknowledging the significance of the occasion, Chief Executive Officer Debra Morgan reflected on the milestone and the strong sense of connection among guests.

It was a special occasion for the Trust, and it meant a great deal to come together with those who have been part of its journey. The evening reflected both the strength of Helen’s legacy and the enduring commitment of our partners, Trustees and staff to support a strong, just and sustainable Victoria. The Trust extends its sincere thanks to the Governor and the Government House team for their generous hospitality, and to all those who joined in marking this important milestone.
