Closing the ‘education gap’ for children and young people in care
The TEACHaR program, a current grant project of Helen Macpherson Smith Trust, has won the prestigious Robin Clark Award for best Education Initiative at the 2015 Robin Clark Protecting Children Awards on Tuesday, 8 September 2015.
The TEACHaR program is designed to give children in out-of-home care direct, one-on-one support for as long as it takes to achieve the extra lift required to achieve at school and is proving to be very successful. Children and young people in care typically experience poorer educational outcomes and vocational opportunities that those in the general student population.
The Hon Jenny Mikakos MP, Minister for Families & Children presented the Award at the official launch of Child Protection Week in Victoria. The Awards recognise service excellence across the child protection sector throughout Victoria and celebrate the important and varied work undertaken in child, youth and family services.
Nominees included foster and kinship carers; academics; or policy, program, supervisory and direct service staff from organisations working in child protection, youth justice, out of home care, family support, mentoring, peer education, neighbourhood houses, and mental health, alcohol, and other drug services.
The Trustees and staff of HMSTrust congratulate the TEACHaR team at Anglicare on winning the Award.
